Findings. The General Assembly finds that methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) presents substantial environmental risks to the water quality in Illinois, as well as to the public health, safety, and welfare of the people of the State of Illinois. (Source: P.A. 92-132, eff. 7-24-01.)
Definitions. As used in this Act: "MTBE" means methyl tertiary butyl ether. "Agency" means the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. "Trace amount" means an amount not exceeding 0.5% by volume of the motor fuel. (Source: P.A. 92-132, eff. 7-24-01; 92-550, eff. 6-24-02.)
MTBE Prohibitions. Beginning 3 years after the effective date of this Act, no person shall use, sell, offer for sale, distribute, blend, or manufacture MTBE as a fuel additive in Illinois.
