Coverage for damage to rental vehicles authorized. As used in this section, "property damage" means damage or loss to a rented vehicle in excess of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00), including loss of use and any costs or expenses incident to the damage or loss, for which the renter is legally obligated to pay; and "rented" means rented on a daily rate basis for a period of 21 consecutive days or less. The Bureau is authorized to promulgate rates and policy forms for insurance against property damage to rented private passenger motor vehicles. Such coverage may be offered at the option of the individual member companies of the Bureau. (1989, c. 631, s. 1; 1989 (Reg. Sess., 1990), c. 1021, s. 10.)
