***** 388.1879.amended THIS AMENDED SECTION IS EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2026 ***** Sec. 279.
(1) Included in the appropriation for fiscal year 2026-2027 for each public university in section 236 is funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. - Dolores Huerta – Morris Hood Jr. - Rosa Parks college/university partnership program between 4-year public and independent colleges and universities and public community colleges, which is intended to increase the number of academically or economically disadvantaged students who transfer from community colleges into baccalaureate programs in this state. Preference may not be given to participants on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, gender, or national origin. Institutions should encourage participation from those who would otherwise not adequately be represented in the transfer student population.
(2) The grants must be made under the program described in this section to Michigan public and independent colleges and universities. An award to any 1 institution must not be greater than $150,000.00, must have an award period of no more than 2 years, and must be matched on a 70% state, 30% college or university basis.
(3) The department of labor and economic opportunity shall administer the program described in this section.
