1. Except as otherwise provided in subsections 2, 3 and 4, an insurer shall approve or deny a claim of its insured relating to a contract of casualty insurance within 30 days after the insurer receives the claim. If the claim is approved, the insurer shall pay the claim within 30 days after it is approved. If the approved claim is not paid within that period, the insurer shall pay interest on the claim at the rate of interest established pursuant to NRS 99.040. The interest must be calculated from the date the payment is due until the claim is paid. 2. If the insurer requires additional information or time to determine whether to approve or deny a claim, it shall notify the policyholder of its request for the additional information or time within 20 days after it receives the policyholder’s claim, and at least once every 30 days thereafter, until the claim is approved or denied. The notice must set forth the reason why the additional information or time is required. 3. The insurer shall approve or deny the claim within: (a) Thirty days after it receives the additional information; or (b) Thirty-one days after the last timely notice was provided pursuant to subsection 2, Ê whichever is later. 4. If the claim is approved, the insurer shall pay the claim within 30 days after it is approved. If the approved claim is not paid within that period, the insurer shall pay interest on the claim in the manner prescribed in subsection 1.
