S. 1342: TO TABLE THE DECONCINI AMENDMENT TO S. 1342. THE DECONCINI AMENDMENT PROVIDES THAT IT IS THE SENSE OF THE CONGRESS THAT THE SECRETARY OF STATE SHOULD RECOMMEND TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL THAT EXTENDED VOLUNTARY DEPARTURE STATUS BE GRANTED TO ALIENS WHO ARE NATIONALS OF EL SALVADOR, AND THAT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SHOULD EXERCISE HIS DISCRETION AND GRANT SUCH STATUS TO SUCH ALIENS UNTIL THE SITUATION IN EL SALVADOR HAS CHANGED SUFFICIENTLY TO PERMIT THEIR SAFELY RESIDING IN THAT COUNTRY.
