H.R. 2: On Agreeing to the Amendment — H.R.2 BY CLAY (D-MO) -- FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT OF 1991 (HOUSE REJECTED THE STENHOLM AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE THAT SOUGHT TO PROVIDE FOR UP TO SIX YEARS OF UNPAID LEAVE TO EMPLOYEES ON THE OCCASION OF THE BIRTH OR ADOPTION OF A CHILD, WITH NO REQUIREMENT FOR THE CONTINUATION OF HEALTH BENEFITS; PROVIDE FOR UP TO TWO YEARS OF UNPAID LEAVE FOR EMPLOYEES TO CARE FOR SERIOUSLY ILL IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS, ALSO WITH NO CONTINUATION OF HEALTH BENEFITS; PROVIDE THAT RETURNING EMPLOYEES WOULD BE REINSTATED TO THE PREVIOUS JOB IF IT IS AVAILABLE, OR TO THE FIRST EQUIVALENT POSITION TO BECOME AVAILABLE; AND APPLIES THESE PROVISIONS TO ALL EMPLOYERS, REGARDLESS OF SIZE.)
